Sites of Memory, 2024

Endurance and embrace. I offer an honest account of my transition to Hunts Point. Here, the camera functions as a tool for connection. I am challenged to explore intimacy in unfamiliar terrain, as I figure out a new domestic space for myself while navigating a defined public sphere. I am able to interact with my ancestry in new ways, such as collaborating with elders who danced alongside my late uncle, Luther Fontaine. As I lean on old habits, and actively develop fresh ones, I am able to seriously feel through what a liberated approach to documentary storytelling means for me and those around me.

This project came to life throughout my fellowship with Magnum Foundation. It was presented at “A Conversation Between Collin Riggins and Mateo Ruiz González” at Magnum Foundation (2025). Read more on Magnum Foundation’s website.
